CLEARLY A THRILL
Hello and welcome to Joiner Daylily Gardens' 2007/08 website
Dear
Friends,
We are
sorry
for
any
inconvenience
to
you
in
the
delay
of
both
our
2008
catalog
and
website
update.
We
had a tough season with regards to weather during
2007.
The sales months were plagued by dry weather and when we transplanted for
2008 we suffered through 90% humidity and 100 degree heat.
I am proud to say our
lilies have come through it all and are now
growing
vigorously.
The
seedlings
this
year
were
just
too
good
to
be
true.
I
have
never
seen
the
tet
doubles
as
big
and
full
as
they
were
this
year.
Many
of
them
were
8
inches!
Aaron
had
some
that
showed
a
lot
of
blue
potential and,
of
course, he still likes
the big ones. Royce
had a lot of seedlings that were near white. He also had some with wide dark
eyes and edges. Jan's tet unusual form doubles are getting more exciting. The
petals are finally starting to get narrower and twist like she wants them to.
We
selected
so many seedlings that
we
could not move them all
to
the next selection beds.
We
did find room to plant
all
of
our
seeds from this year and are expecting some real beauties
to
bloom
next
spring.
One of Jan’s new introductions “Clearly a Thrill” is her first attempt at a tet unusual form double. She says, ”It is good but I’m not finished with it.” “Clearly a Thrill” has two good parents in “Performing Magic” (E. Joiner) and “Moving all Over” (P. Stamile). The seedlings from it are very exciting.
The
delay
in
our
new
introductions
is due to the fact that Jan’s father,
Winton Driggers,
required
both
Jan's
and her
brother
Don's
care.
He
passed away on October 29.
Enman
Joiner’s health continues to decline, but Frances is still able to manage his
care at home.
They
were able to visit the garden only once this year.
Please
keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
We
do sincerely thank you for your patronage over the years and we are looking
forward to sharing
many
more years.
Sincerely,
Royce and Jan Joiner and the Joiner Family
P.S. I forgot the most exciting news. Our little Aaron, who is 23, got engaged in August. Brittany is a very sweet young lady, who will be a great asset to our family.
Both Rebecca and Aaron will be graduating from college in May 2008 (we hope). Rebecca will graduate with a Bachelor's degree as a Registered Nurse. Aaron will receive a degree in Marketing. Right now, we are not sure when these graduations will be held, most likely on a Saturday. We are not missing these graduations! We are looking forward to them! If you are coming from out of town, PLEASE call and see if we are going to be here. As soon as we know the dates and times we will put them on our web site and answering machine. Thank you for your understanding.
